Lawyers representing Patrick Osei aka Countryman Songo, Abatey and Multi Media Limited in a $2m libel suit are pleading for an out of court settlement.

Corporate Legal Concepts (CPL), lawyers for and on behalf of Multi Media Limited and the two sports journalists have written officially to Mr Nyantakyi pleading with him to accept GH₵ 40,000 as compensation.

Mr Nyantakyi is suing the trio, Asempa FM and its mother company for providing the platform for such attacks which were aimed at maligning his personality and integrity with unsubstantiated allegations on their programme.

According to the suit, the two tarnished his image through series of broadcasts with their unprovoked attacks and labelled him a thief even though they did not back their claims with any evidence.

Backing his claims with over 100 recordings which date to 2012 and 2015, the GFA capo who describes the allegations as “false, malicious and slanderous” then proceeded to the Fast Track court to seeking damages.

But in a leaked letter addressed to Nyantakyi’s lawyers, lawyers for MGL are pleading with the GFA boss to “in the spirit of reconciliation” accept the amount of GHC 40,000 as compensation for what has transpired.

Parts of the letter signed by a Managing Partner of CPL, Shadrach Arhin reads “In the spirit of reconciliation, and the efforts made by our client in rendering an unqualified apology to your client and retracting the story online on its portals, our client pleads with your client to accept the amount of GHC40,00 as compensation for what has transpired.

“We hope this is acceptable to your client”.

However, Mr Nyantakyi says he is not interested in the compensation but wants the case to run its natural course in court in order to clear his name and also regain his damaged reputation.

” I am not interested in money or punishment but to set the record straight. They’ve called me a ‘thief’, ‘armed robber’ and a ‘corrupt’ man.
“I have sued them. I want to uphold standards in journalism in Ghana which have been thrown to the dogs.”
