Profile Of Kofi Amoakohene, Bono East Regional Minister-Designate

 

On February 28, 2019, President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo nominated the Member of Parliament for the Atebubu-Amantin Constituency, Honourable Kofi Amoakohene as the Regional Minister-designate for the Bono East region.

Honourable Amoakohene is scheduled to appear before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Thursday 14th March 2019, for consideration and report.

If approved, history will remember him as the first Regional Minister of the newly created Bono East region and the fourth Minister after K.K Asante, S.K Asare-Sawiri and Abraham Kwadwo Kwakye to have come from the Atebubu-Amantin Municipality.

Who is Honourable Kofi Amoakohene?

Born on 11th April 1969, Kofi Amoakohene was born and raised in Atebubu in the Atebubu-Amantin Municipal.

Amoakohene had his Middle School Leaving Certificate(MSLC) at the Ateco Demonstration School and later proceeded to the then Bechem Business College(BEBUSCO) for his RSA II.

He has certificates from the Institute of Adult Education from the University of Ghana and NIIT, Ghana (ACHIMOTA Centre).

He holds a BSc Administration Degree(2005) from the Central University in Accra and a Master’s of Arts Degree from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC).

Until his election as a Member of Parliament, he had worked with Customer Company Limited, North Industrial Area, Accra, as the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) for over 15 years.

In 2004 and 2007, he made attempts to represent the NPP as the Parliamentary candidate but lost on both occasions at the primaries.

But 2016, Honourable Kofi Amoakohene against all odds was elected on the ticket of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) as the Member of Parliament for the Atebubu-Amantin constituency.

Securing 19,218 of valid votes cast, representing 50.85 percent to beat the incumbent, Sanja Nanja, he became the first ever legislator to end the NDC’s dominance in the constituency under the 4th Republic.

Though a first timer, he serves on two key committees in Parliament; Youth, Sports and Culture Committee and the Appointments Committee.

A devout Christian, Honourable Kofi Amoakohene fellowships with the Christian Life Center Ministries.

He is married and blessed with seven children.
