Ace broadcaster, Omanhene Kwabena Asante has called out Bolgatanga Central MP, Hon. Isaac Adongo describing his lecture on the state of the Ghanaian economy as a JOKE!
Mr Adongo, at a lecture organized on Thursday by the Coalition for Restoration (CFR), a pressure group of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led a team of gurus to deliver responses to issues raised on the current state and way forward for the Ghana economy during Wednesday’s town hall meeting by government’s Economic Management Team (EMT).
The Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who led the EMT laid bare several issues of economic importance including, the depreciation of the cedi, inflation, job creation, power generation, food security and most importantly operational issues at the ports. The vice president even went further to announce a reduction in benchmark fees of 50% and 30% on imported goods and cars respectively, which took effect today.
But speakers who addressed today’s response lecture by the CFR took turns to outdo various aspects of Dr. Bawumia’s presentation. Minority MPs, Issac Adongo, Fiifi Kwetey, Cassiel Ato Forson, John Jinapor and former deputy Finance Minister Mona Quartey, soent some time to discredit facts and figures quoted in report by the veep.
Mr Adongo who was the main speaker at the event threw a lot of aspersions at the second gentlemen of Ghana, mostly focusing on his personality at the expense of the figures, facts and alternative solutions.
In a fiery commentary on Asempa FM’s “Ekosii Sen” programme, host of Adom TV’s morning show, Omanhene Kwabena Asante said the speech by Hon. Adongo and his colleagues Fiifi Kwetey and Ato Forson were shameful and could be likened to “Key Soap Concert Party”.
“We want action-oriented lectures, promising and fulfilling critiques but clearly let’s totally write-off the first three speakers. They didn’t come to serve any interest…”, he said.
According to Omanhene, everything Adongo and his colleagues did at the lecture were calculated attempts to please former President John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s flagbearer for the 2020 election.
He said, the nation is sick and has reached a point where pettiness and personality driven speeches that offer no solutions should be rejected and ridiculed by citizens who must as well hold politicians accountable.
“We have very serious issues on hand… [and so]… if you want to return to government, you don’t play like this, because, we are not playing here. That time when [we] used innuendos, insults and name-calling in our politics is over. Our country is sick, bring us the needed prescription…and look at what he [Adongo] came to do,” Omanhene added.
The tough-talking presenter said the lecture held by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia yesterday has been backed by actions which is what Ghana needs and not one which serves NPP or NDC interest like the “creche lecture” Hon. Adongo delivered today
“Now every text messages, invoices and waybills, we’re getting here … show that everything the EMT said about the ports has taken effect today….this is action-oriented”, – Omanhene.
The suave presenter concluded his commentary by ccommending MP for Yapei-Kusawgu, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor for highlighting all the pertinent issues racking the energy sector — to which government must provide appropriate reponses.
