Rose Mawusi Fiaku, the woman who stole a one-year-old baby at the Takoradi Market Circle last month, has been jailed five years with hard labour.
The gender court in Sekondi, presided over by Her ladyship, Abena Akyen Doku, gave the sentenced after examining a hospital report to verify claims by the suspect’s mother that her daughter was not mentally stable.
Rose Mawusi Fiaku, 42, whisked away the one-year-old baby on Friday March 22, 2019 at the Market Circle in Takoradi after pretending to be playing with him.
The city which had been dealing with the unresolved kidnapping of three teenagers since last year, was thrown into grief and confusion over yet another missing child.
But a CCTV fixed to the office of the Ghana Home Loans company would give the suspect up after it was found to have captured a slim, fair and short woman walking off with the baby hooked under her right arm.
The suspect was arrested Tuesday dawn March 26, 2019 with her concubine Lawson Lartey who was also charged with abetment of crime.
Rose was convicted after she pleaded and was found guilty of of the offence.
Her partner, Lawson Lartey is currently on bail and would to reappear before court on April 29, 2019.
