4 Out Of 10 Young Persons In Odumase Likely To Test Positive For HIV

HIV/AIDS RATE ODUMASEThe HIV/AIDS prevalence rate is assuming alarming proportion in Odumase the capital of the Sunyani West District of the Bono Region is becoming increasingly alarming.

The town which is about 7km from the regional capital is the hub to many revelers from Sunyani, Fiapre, Abesim, New Dormaa, Kortorkrom, Baakoniaba and other surrounding towns in the region.

According to a report by MyNewsGh.com and sighted by Ghanaxtra.com, four out of every ten young persons in the town could test positive for the disease.

The report continuous that the high HIV/AIDS prevalence of the disease can be attributed to the lifestyle in the town.

The town never sleeps as loud music and colourful beams of light spice the vibrant nightlife from every corner of the suburbs.

The town has become the centre of attraction for revelers from across the Bono capital as vibrant youth every evening troupe to the many drinking spots and drug hubs to have fun.

These lifestyles have led to an increase in the HIV/AIDS rate among young persons in the area.

The situation has compelled the Ghana AIDS Commission to initiate a programme where peer educators are deployed to the night clubs every weekend.

The exercise is to counsel girls to know their HIV statuses and distribute free condoms and vagina lubricants to aid them to have safe sex if they do not want to abstain.
