All is set for the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards(VGMA) at the Accra International Conference Centre tonight.
The event which is in its 20th year has paraded some of the finest when it comes to who hosts the show every year.
Some times, the choice of who hosts the show has generated huge controversy and this year was no exception as many names were buddled around in the media.
Was it is going to be Joselyn Dumas, Berla Mundi or the versatile and passionate Johnnie Hughes?
The organisers finally settled undoubtedly on one of Ghana’s finest voice on radio, Kwame Sefa Kayi.
But how well do you know Kwame Sefa Kayi? Ghanaxtra.com has compiled five key things about him.
He is not new to VGMA
Kwame Sefa Kayi is not new to the VGMA. He hosted the event many times from 1999 through to 2007 until he handed over the mantle.
Kwame Sefa Kayi is known by many as Chairman General but the broadcaster prefers to call himself the benevolent dictator on his flagship political programme.
He wanted to be a soldier
Growing up as a shy young man, Kwame wanted to serve in the military but he ended up taking up the microphone and has become one of the biggest radio personalities in Ghana.
Like he puts “I really, really, really wanted to be an army officer” but he landed in the media by accident.
He is a member of the dreaded Coffee Shop Mafia
Kwame Sefa Kayi is the speaker of the dreaded Labone based Coffee Shop Mafia(CSM) group. The group which boasts of personalities like Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, Randy Abbey and Lawyer Egbert Faibille is rumoured to be very influential.
He is the host of ‘Kokrokoo’ on Peace FM
Kwami Sefa Kayi has been the host of the ‘Kokrokoo’ morning show on the Accra-based Peace FM for over a decade. The predominantly Twi programme hosts some of the great minds in the political and social landscape. If not the best, his show is among the best two in the country.
