This week, it emerged that Joy FM’s investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni has been flown outside Ghana after he became the target of death threats.
The threats come after he produced a documentary titled ‘militia in the heart of the nation,’ which revealed the presence of pro-government militia force working at the former seat of government, Christiansborg Castle.
The revelation was made by the founder of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Professor Kwame Karikari.
According to him, Manasseh spent the past two months hiding from his pursuers, a situation that forced employers to fly him out of the country to protect him from harm.
But a contrary report has emerged proving the otherwise of the earlier reportage. According to a Facebook user by the name John Kwadwo Stevens, the journalist is not under any threat.
He reveals that he is in constant communication with the underfire journalist and can confirm that the said reports are negative as the government will not do anything to suppress press freedom.
“…I am in close contact with Manasseh and can confirm to you that the propaganda by the NDC to make Ghanaians believe that the life of Manasseh is under threat in Ghana is false.
“I knew Manasseh when I was the School Prefect at Aggrey Memorial SHS in Cape Coast and Central Regional SRC President…since then we have been friends and that tells you I know what I am talking about…even this morning I spoke to him.
“This Government will never do anything to undermine the freedom of Journalists in this country.”
