Ghana’s topmost dancehall artistes, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, have been banned from the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) and stripped of all awards they won at the recent event.

This follows the unfortunate fracas that erupted between the two during the 20th edition of the VGMA, where Shatta Wale and his followers stormed the stage at a time Stonebwoy was receiving the Dancehall Artiste of the Year award.

A free-fall-all-fight ensued which forced Stonebwoy to pull out his gun in an attempt to protect himself from harm.

The duo, after the event, have been condemned by industry watchers many of whom think they should be punished for bringing the award scheme into disrepute.

Announcing the ban at an event in Accra, organisers of the VGMA said the two artistes breached the code of conduct of the award scheme, which allows the board to dismiss or disqualify any nominee who misbehaves or brings the Awards into disrepute.

According to the board, the ban is indefinite and would be lifted if both Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy exhibit good behaviour.

Meanwhile, the two musicians have been arrested and released on bail. They have pleaded not guilty in court and are to reappear on June 20.
