Contrary to reports in the media that Asamoah Gyan was stripped of his captaincy based on the prophecy of a prophet, the details are finally out.
According to coach Akwasi Appiah, the man who was in the helm of affairs at that time, no prophet influenced his decision to take the captaincy from Asamoah Gyan.
Speaking on the issue for the first on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM ahead of his book launch in Kumasi today, he revealed that such reports are false.
He revealed that it would have been very naive on his part as a coach to have acted on the directions of a so-called man of God who has no football background.
Akwesi Appiah told Bright Kankam Boadu that he took the decision taking into consideration a lot of football factors.
He revealed that coaching is about risk-taking and he believed at the time that that was the best decision he needed to take.
“No prophet influenced my decision to take the captaincy from Asamoah Gyan. I laugh about it when I hear such reports. How can a so-called prophet choose a captain for me when he is not at camp with the team?
“…Coaching is about risk-taking and that why I took that decision.”
On his relationship with Asamoah Gyan, the coach revealed that he has a very cordial relationship with the striker and his family.
