TLiverpool’s Sadio Mané was yesterday adjudged the 2019 African Footballer of the Year for the first time in his career.
The Senegalese beat competition from club teammate and nemesis, Mohamed Salah and Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez.
The Senegal forward received his award from the four-time winner Samuel Eto’o at a star-studded ceremony in the Red Sea resort of Hurghada in Egypt.
Mané becomes the second Senegalese to win the award after another Liverpool player, El Hadji-Diouf, in 2001 and 2002.
He is now the best African Player on the planet.
