A military recruit has died from injuries sustained during a training drill at the beach.
The serviceman got into trouble on Tuesday while practising a jump from a landing aircraft, together with his comrades.
He and the other team members were well armed and loaded with full military kit but are feared to have leapt into deeper water than expected.
The deceased navy recruit was pulled out of the water unconscious and airlifted to the Derriford hospital in Plymouth for further treatment.
The tragedy is said to have happened near the shoreline of Tregantle beach in Cornwall during cold temperatures.
A Navy spokesperson confirmed his death in a statement released today which read:……
‘We can confirm the sad death of the Royal Marine who was injured in an incident earlier this week.’
‘The thoughts and sympathies of the Naval Service go out to the family and friends of the individual.’
‘The incident is still under investigation, therefore it would be inappropriate to comment further.’
