A US-Based Woman Sues Funny Face for chopping her students loan and failing to marry her
A Ghanaian woman based in the US, Mary Ama Boansi, has dragged popular comedian Funny Face to court for alleged fraud.
Ms Boansi is asking the courts to assist her retrieve an amount of $53,105.53 owed her by Funny Face, also known as Benson Oduro Boateng.
A writ of summons sighted by GhanaXtra alleges that Funny Face collected the monies from the lady who he had promised to marry but failed, and has since refused to pay back.
According to the documents, Funny Face and the Plaintiff, Mary Ama Boansi met sometime in June 2016 and subsequently became friends.
The two fell in love with each other and as their love grew stronger, Funny Face proposed to marry her, which she accepted.
Ms Boansi claims that due to the marriage proposal, she became interested in the welfare of Funny Face and went out of her way to honour his unusual financial demands including footing the bills of his Cow and Chicken movie project and Funny Face Fun Festival.
She also alleges to have given Funny Face $5,000 to cover expenses on his health and another $4,000 to repair his Range Rover. Other costs also include plane tickets she bought for him to attend an awards show in London which he refused to pay back.
The writ further adds that even though the comedian promised to pay back the money which were remitted after long periods of unbearable pressure, he has refused to stick to his words.
Mary Ama Boansi, who lives in Texas, claims that the monies advanced to Funny Face were proceeds from student loans she had procured, and is therefore praying the court to direct the comedian to pay her $53,105.53 or its Ghana cedi equivalent, being the total sum of money she allegedly gave him.
She is also asking the court to declare that Funny Face defrauded her by “false pretense” and direct him to pay her interests on the said amount at the prevailing interest rates.
