A member of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Timothy Ataboade Awentiirim says he will not be attending the Catholic Church again.
Timothy Ataboade Awentiirim who is the former MP for the Builsa North Constituency in the Upper East region has attributed his decision to the Catholic Bishops Conference’s engagement in what he describes as partisan politics.
According to him, the Conference’s threat to campaign against NDC over the party’s refusal to sign a peace pact put together by the Peace council recently is unnecessary and needless.
Speaking on Power 97.9 FM, Mr Awentiirim revealed that the Catholic Bishops Conference seemed to be acting in support of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and not acting for peace to prevail.
“Why do you threaten to campaign against the NDC when it initiated the process of ending vigilantism…When the violence that injured many broke during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-elections, where were the catholic Bishops? We all know those who were behind it yet these Bishops are pretending they don’t know what happened. Their hypocrisy is glaring and we have seen it.
“Their (the bishops) hypocrisy is why I have quit the Catholic Church. I won’t step foot there because the hypocrisy is worrying.”
