“Mahama Cannot Be On The Ballot” – Kofi Akpaloo

Kofi Akpaloo vs Mahama
Akpaloo believes Mahama is out of the 2020 elections

The presidential candidate of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo has advised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to find another candidate for the December 2020 presidential elections.

According to Mr Akpaloo, the former president John Dramani Mahama would be taken to court and jailed after investigations into the recent Airbus scandal are concluded.

The special prosecutor has commenced investigations into bribery allegations against government officials associated with Ghana’s deal with French aircraft manufacturers, Airbus.

The said officials allegedly received bribes from the Airbus company in order to facilitate the purchase of three Casa 295 aicrafts worth $150 million between 2009 and 2015.

But speaking on Net 2 TV’s political talkshow, ‘The Seat’ on Monday evening, leader of the LPG said he is convinced Mr Mahama would struggle to defend himself being the only surving leader among the three who led the country between January 2009 and January 2017 when the deal happened.

“I’m saying Mahama cannot be on the ballot paper….He will not even qualify to contest after going to court over the Airbus issue, so how can he be part of the 2020 elections”? I told Nigel Gaisie that his prophecy on Mahama is a lie”

According to Mr Akpaloo, the NDC presidential candidate cannot escape trial since he supervised the deal and may be the codenamed “government official 1”.

“He is government official 1…I have told Mahama to come out and deny he is not the one…until he comes, I will say he is the one being referred to,” Akpaloo told the host.

Mr Akpaloo further alleged that, during his presidency, John Mahama was only interested in the percentages and commisions he received from such contracts and that explains why he was so interested in awarding huge projects.

The LPG leader has thrown a challenge to the former to come out and openly deny the allegations if no bribes were paid to him.
