Ghana Library Authority (GhLA) with support from Newmont Ghana has completed refurbishment works on the Sunyani children’s library.
In 2018, the Authority rolled out an ‘Adopt a library’ campaign inviting corporate institutions to adopt libraries and support overall operations
Newmont Ghana stepped up to partner with Ghana Library Authority and adopted Akim Oda and Sunyani Children’s Library.
Newmont Ghana has since supported various literacy and reading Programmes of the Authority, leading an improved use of library resources within the beneficiary communities.
Speaking at the event on behalf of the Executive Director of the GhLA, the Head of School and College Libraries at GhLA, Mr Samson Osenda stated reveal Ghana Library Authority is making strides across the country.
“ The Ghana Library Authority’s operational footprints across the country is continuously growing, and we are making that strenuous effort to match this growth with the quantum of learning materials and other resources available. As everyone can envisage, we have strategically targeted children as our main focus.
“As you all know, our world rests on the shoulders of our children. The emerging beautiful ideas and wonderful renovations around us, mostly originate with the ingenuity and creativity of young ones, and place a burden on us to forge a way out that we can use to support their knowledge curiosity”.
Mr Okyere Ntrama, the Mine Manager of Newmont Ghana noted that Newmont Ghana exists to create value and improve lives through their operations.
He revealed that he was hopeful that the refurbished facility will ignite a life-long passion for reading among the children of this community, which will pave the path to a brighter future.
The current Sunyani Children’s Library which was established in 1970 was in a deplorable state; therefore, the GhLA expressed their gratitude to Newmont Ghana for their Life-long investment.
