Management of the Ghana Education Service has ordered the immediate closure of all Senior High Schools in the country.
The order to close down the schools takes according to the GES takes immediate effect.
A letter addressed to all Regional Directors of Education reveals that the decision has been taken following the suspension of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination(WASSCE).
A portion of the letter reads:” Management of Ghana Education Service(GES) has received notification from the West African Examinations Council(WAEC) that it has suspended the Timetable for school candidates, 2020 for WASSCE and has also put the conduct of the said examinations on hold until further notice due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic”.
The statement continues that “In the light of this development, management of GES after consultations with the relevant bodies, hereby directs that all final year students in the Senior High Schools should be allowed to go home immediately, until further notice”.
Meanwhile, all Junior High Schools which were opened to prepare final year BECE students have also been ordered to shut down effective March 23, 2020.
