The 63rd Independence Day celebration is currently ongoing at the Baba Yara sports stadium in Kumasi.
Under the theme “Consolidating Our Gains”, this the first-ever Independence Day celebration in the Ashanti Region and the second in the series since the current administration started to move the yearly celebration from Accra.
Many dignitaries, as usual, were at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to grace the occasion but one personality who failed to turn up for the event is former President and flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama.
Although Mr Mahama had in a message wished Ghanaians well and urged them to digest the words in the National pledge, he was conspicuously missing at the event.
Mr Mahama’s seat with his name embossed on it was next to former President J.A Kufuor but the leader was nowhere to be found.
It remains unclear why Mr Mahama chose not to honour the event.
