Brazilian legend Ronaldinho has been arrested for allegedly using a doctored passport in Paraguy, authorities say.
The two-time World Player Of The Year had travelled to the country to promote a book and a campaign for underprivileged children.
Police searched the Resort Yacht & Golf Club Paraguayo, on Wednesday, where the 39-year-old had been lodging with his brother Roberto.
Authorities say the player and his brother are comporting themselves. They have denied any wrongdoing and will be given a fair hearing on Thursday.
“Ronaldinho will be heard at eight in the morning on Thursday at the prosecutor’s office,” interior minister Euclides Acevedo told reporters.
Ronaldinho was considered one of the best footballers of his generation. He enjoyed his prime with Spanish giants Barcelona, winning the World Cup in 2002 and the World Player of the Year in 2004 and 2005.
His net worth stands at an estimated 100 million pounds and he is reported to charge around 150,000 pounds for a single promoted Instagram post.
The former Barcelona star is not currently in possession of a Brazilian passport because of a fine he received in 2018.
