The Medical Director of the Sunyani Regional Hospital, Dr. Dr. Emmanuel Kofi Amponsah, has been reassigned to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) Headquarters in Accra.
A letter from the Director-General of the GHS, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye to that effect has been sighted by GhanaXtra.com.
A portion of the letter reads, “Based on the exigencies of our operations and in line with your expertise, this is to kindly re-assign you to the Ghana Health Headquarters to support the evaluation of existing systems of assessing and improving the operational effectiveness of clinical care interventions in the area of oral health.”
Although the transfer of Dr. Dr. Emmanuel Kofi Amponsah per the letter from the Ghana Health Service is based on operational exigencies and his expertise, GhanaXtra.Com sources prove otherwise.
Investigations by this portal reveal that his transfer follows comments he made when the Bono National Democratic Congress (NDC) donated a set of Personal Protective Equipment to the hospital, on behalf of their party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.
Dr. Amponsah on receiving the donation said: “This was the first time the Regional Hospital has received a full set of Personal Protective Equipment in a bulk donation,” a comment that is rumoured to have angered the appointing authorities.
The maxillofacial specialist has been in charge of the Bono Regional Hospital for close to two years after taking over from Dr. Jacob Abebrese, who was also reassigned to the GHS headquarters in a similar fashion.
However, another conspiracy theory also attributes his sacking to operational difficulties he has faced since assuming office as the Medical Director.
GhanaXtra.Com’s impeccable sources have revealed that his administration has suffered immense sabotage from some colleagues and subordinates, a situation that made his reign quite difficult and ineffective.
Some staff rose against his administration shortly after he took office and on March 22, 2018, openly aired their grievances on Sunyani-based Radio BAR over some earlier decisions of Dr. Amponsah.
We have been reliably informed that on several occasions, Dr. Amponsah’s authority has been flouted at management meetings by some doctors who felt he was not the right candidate to be appointed the Medical Director right from day one.
