Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba has lost the bid to lead the football federation (FIF) in his home country following recent elections that favoured his rival.

The former Chelsea forward and FIF vice president Idriss Diallo, received no votes after eleven out fourteen former footballers voted Diabate Sory for the top job, while 3 abstained in a poll conducted over video conferencing.

Diabate’s win doesn’t come as a surprise due to his huge popularity within Ivorian football circles.

He is the current president of the Professional Football League of Cote d’ivoire, and had been endorsed by 48 professional clubs to succeed the outgoing president, Augustine Cidy Diallo.
