Nine Kayayeis who escaped lockdown in Accra test positive for coronavirus in Northern region

A number of Kayayeis left Accra to escape coronavirus lockdown

Nine new cases of the novel coronavirus have been recorded in the Northern Region, bringing the regional total to 22.

The new patients, according to sources, were among a group of head porters who escaped the lockdown in Accra after it was announced by President Akufo-Addo on March 28.

Health officials say five of them have been identified in Yendi (2), Bimbilla (2) and Kpandai (1), while the rest are yet to be located.

Confirming the news, Municipal Chief Executive for Nanumba North, Abdulai Yaqoub, said out of 67 passengers who were on board the vehicle that transported them from Accra, 13 have tested positive, but nine are from the Northern Region.
