COVID-19: Ghana’s case count crosses 5,000

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has reported an increase in the number of coronavirus infections sending the national tally to 5,127, while death toll remains at 22.

The latest figures suggesting an addition of 427 cases since the last update, was announced at the daily press briefing in Accra, Tuesday morning.

With 272 of the new cases recorded in Obuasi alone, the mining town has now surpassed Kumasi to become the Ashanti region’s COVID-19 epicenter.

Areas in Obuasi mostly affected are Wawase, Asonkore and the Central Market which has since been closed.

The number of recoveries sits at 494, but according to the GHS, some 130 patients are awaiting to be declared recovered if exit tests return negative.
