We earlier reported the amazing story of a Ghanaian mother and daughter, Drs. Cynthia and Jasmine Kudji, who graduated from Louisiana State University (LSU) medical school in the United States on the same day.

The duo who are set to begin residency at the LSU in Louisiana from July 1, 2020, became the first ever mother and daughter to attend medical school at the same time and match at the same institution.

Born in Kenyasi Ghana and travelling to the US at the tender age of two, Dr. Cynthia Kudji put her dreams of becoming a doctor on hold when she got pregnant with her daughter Jasmine at 23.

Determined to conquer her goals, Cynthia later pursued a career in nursing, working for almost a decade before deciding to attend medical school.

Her amazing journey was crowned in March 20, 2020 when she matched alongside her daughter who also matched at LSU on the same day.

GhanaXtra.com has compiled some captivating images from their graduation ceremony.

My mom and I are both going to be doctors! Can’t believe we matched into residency at the same time. I am most proud of my Mom, Cynthia Kudji, who also matched today at LSU in Family Medicine 💜💛🙌🏾. She began her medical career as an CNA at the age of 23 as a single mother. She then went on to become an RN. Years later she became a Nurse Practitioner, and now she has finally achieved her dream of becoming a Family Medicine Physician. This woman is unstoppable, unwavering, compassionate, and an inspiration to all, especially to me. Having my mother by my side through these trying years of medical school has made this journey so much more bearable, and I couldn’t imagine going through medical school or life without her. I’m so unbelievably proud of my mom, and I can’t wait to begin residency together at LSU. ✨ ✨ ✨ ✨ #match #matchday #blackgirlmagic #blackdoctor #womeninmedicine #md #pa #rn #instablogger #familymedicine #surgery #generalsurgery #melanininmedicine #match2020 #matchday2020 #premed #premedlife #premedmotivation #medicine #reseaudocteur

Today would have been my Pre-Commencement ceremony, during which we are able to receive our graduation hoods on stage from a family member who is also a physician. My mom was going to hood me today. I’m sad that such a symbolic moment cant be shared with all my family and friends. However, It doesn’t change the fact that we did it. We succeeded. We beat the odds. My mom always said that being a single mother, she didn’t want to just be another statistic…. Well how is this for a statistic, mommy: out of the 1,085,783 physicians in the US, 2% are African American women. I’m so proud to be in that number with you, and now that we’re official I can’t wait to work with you to get that number up 😉🙌🏾🎓

My time at LSU pursuing my undergraduate degree was one of the best times of my life: from tailgating to hanging out in the quad with all my friends to cheering on the tigers at every football game. I truly had the best college experience. After receiving my degree and leaving Baton Rouge, I was overjoyed to also get accepted to LSU Medical School where i continued to proudly wear my purple & gold. However, also matching at LSU for Residency with my mom has been one of the most exciting experiences. I’m so excited to have the opportunity to serve my community and to continue to represent LSU. ✨ Thank you @lsu for sharing our story. ✨ Go to their page to see the full video. #ForeverLSU 💜💛 #GoTigers 🐯
