Ghana’s coronavirus death toll hits 24; two more casualties announced!

Two more patients receiving treatment for coronavirus-related infections have died, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) said on Wednesday.

The new casualties push the nationwide death toll to twenty-four (24) out of 5,408 patients who have contracted the deadly virus since March 12, when it was first discovered to have entered the country.

An update on the Service’s COVID-19 website indicated that twenty more patients have recovered sending the number of recoveries to 514.

The details of death was not captured in the update, but at a press briefing on Tuesday May 12, the GHS said that the majority of the those who have succumbed to the virus had underlying medical conditions.

The regional COVID-19 case breakdown is as follows;

  2. Ashanti Region – 726
  3. Central Region – 192
  4. Eastern Region – 99
  5. Western Region – 61
  6. Western North Region – 56
  7. Volta Region – 34
  8. Upper East Region – 26
  9. Oti Region – 24
  10. Upper West Region – 21
  11. Northern Region – 19
  12. North East Region – 2
  13. Bono Region – 1
  14. Savannah Region – 0
  15. Ahafo Region – 0
  16. Bono East Region – 0
