The founder and head pastor of the International Godsway Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, has been released from police custody.
Obinim was arrested and charged on Tuesday May 19 for various offences including the publication of false news and forgery of documents, after Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong lodged a complaint.
Announcing his arrest, the police said in a statement that he had been arraigned before an Accra Magistrate Court and granted a 100,000 cedis bail with three sureties, one to be justified.
Obinim was reported to be struggling to meet the bail terms but his family later came out to accuse the police for making it difficult for the man of God to satisfy the bail conditions.
However, his lawyer Ralph Poku-Adusei has confirmed that his client has been released from police custody, but is currently undergoing medical treatment at a private facility after leaving the Police Hospital.
“We just received information that he has left police custody. The hospital conditions were not good so he is currently with his private doctors trying to check his conditions so that he can be back to normal life,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kennedy Agyapong has threatened that Obinim will also be picked up by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) after he leaves police detention.
