The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is on the heels of a nurse whose twerking video went viral a couple of days ago.
In the video that has received wide commentary on social media, a young lady purported to be a nurse is seen in uniform twerking to a song while male colleagues cheer her on.
But, according to the NMC, the conduct exhibited in the video is a disgrace to the profession and goes contrary to the ethics of nursing practice as captured in Section 7 (a) of the Code of Professional Conduct for nurses.
A statement released by the Council said, although the identity of the nurse is not known, “the matter has been referred to the Intelligence and Disciplinary Department” as it seeks to initiate punitive actions against her.
The NMC assured all stakeholders that it will continue to “exercise its regulatory mandate against such unprofessional conducts that bring the name of the profession into disrepute.”
Meanwhile, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives’ Association (GRNMA) has also distanced itself from the video and directed its leadership and members in the regions to assist in identifying the nurse in question.
“The GRNMA strongly disapproves of such capers by nurses and midwives and regards the twerking in a professional uniform as an unacceptable conduct and a disgrace to our noble profession. Such practices do not reflect the ethics, etiquette and standards of our professions and therefore the GRNMA disassociates itself from the video,” a statement signed by its leadership said.
