A final year student of Mamfe Methodist Girls Senior High School in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region has been reported dead.
The deceased Cindy Aku Sika Addo passed away on Friday, July 17 at the Koforidua Regional Hospital where she was on admission.
According to a release from the Ghana Education Service, the student died as a result of acute malaria.
“Management of Ghana Education Service(GES) has learnt with shock the death of a final year student, Ms Cindy Aku Sika Addo of General Arts 4A of Methodist Girls Senior High School(MEGHIS) at Mamfe, Akuapem.
“The sad incident occurred on Friday 17th July 2020. Management of the school quickly rushed Cindy the Tetteh Quashie Hospital at Mampong around 11 pm on Thursday 16th July 2020 when her friends detected she was not well.
” Her parents her immediately informed and they went to the hospital to see her. She was later referred to the Koforidua Regional Hospital where she was diagnosed of acute malaria. Unfortunately, she passed on the next day on Friday 17th July 2020″, the statement revealed.
She is the third final year SHS student to have died within the past fortnight after government’s recall of the students to schools to prepare for their final examination amid COVID-19 outbreak in Ghana.
