The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, has revealed that the one hot meal for final year JHS students will be effectively executed.
The intervention the Minister says would be managed under the School Feeding Programme for effective delivery and monitoring.
According to the Minister, to ensure uniformity, they have come out a list of foods that would be served in the schools.
Among the menu that would be popular Ghanaian foods like Jollof, Waakye, p Plain Rice and vegetable stew, as well as kontomire stew with an egg.
She explained that Waakye would be served twice a week.
President Nana Addo Danquah Akuf-Addo announced on August 16 that all final year Junior High Students’ in the country will enjoy one hot meal a day.
In all, 584,000 students are expected to benefit from this intervention by government scheduled to kick start from August 24 to September 18.
Speaking in update number 15 on measure taken against the spread of Coronavirus on Sunday, August 16, President Akufo-Addo revealed that 146, 000 staff members have also been captured to benefit from the one hot meal programme.
The intervention by government is to prevent students from going hungry and ensure full compliance with COVID-19 protocols.
“I have just instructed the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection to begin preparations to ensure that, as from 24th August up to 18th September, all five hundred and eighty-four thousand (584,000) final year JHS students, and one hundred and forty-six thousand (146,000) staff, both in public and private schools, be given one hot meal a day. This is to ensure full observance of the COVID-19 safety protocols”.
