The Cape Coast High court has granted an injunction suit against the Member of Parliament-elect for the Assin North Constituency, Mr. James Gyakye Quayson.
The court has ruled that James Gyakye Quayson cannot hold himself as the MP-elect for the constituency.
This was after one Michael Ankomah -Nimfa of Assin Bereku filed a petition seeking to annul the declaration of Mr. James Gyakye Quayson as the Member of Parliament (MP) elect for the Assin North Constituency.
According to the petition, Mr. Quayson owes allegiance to both Ghana and Canada which contravenes the provision of Article 94 (2) (a) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
Justice Kwadwo Boakye Tawiah after listening to arguments from both sides ruled that the case warrants full trial and prohibited the MP-elect from carrying himself as such.
Mr. Quayson, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) MP-elect, polled 17,498 against the NPP’s Madam Abena Durowaa Mensah who had 14,793 in the December 7, 2020 election.
