Government has cleared all public and private Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools in the country to reopen on January 15, 2021.
The decision was revealed by President Akufo-Addo when he addressed the nation in update number 21 on measures taken against the spread of Coronavirus.
“From 15th January our children in Kindergarten, primary and Junior High Schools in both private and public schools, will be back in school”.
The President however disclosed that Form 2 and 3 students will reopen on 18th January 2021.
President Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, 30th December 2020, met cabinet to decide on the possible reopening of schools in January.
According to Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, government prior to the meeting had held discussions with various stakeholders within the sector to come up with a comprehensive and detailed plan on the reopening of schools and hence, the President’s meeting with his cabinet is to finalize and provide a way forward.
The Minister ahead of the meeting disclosed that “President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo prepares to meet cabinet tomorrow for a decision on the possible reopening of schools in January. Key on his agenda will be to examine the proposals for assuring the safety of our children, should schools reopen.”
Schools in the country were closed on March 16, 2020, after Ghana recorded two confirmed cases in the country but they were later partially reopened for final year students to write their exit examination.
