Member of Parliament-elect for Adansi Asokwa, Honourable K.T. Hammond has joined Parliament ahead of the swearing-in ceremony, GhanaXtra can confirm.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart was earlier in the day rumoured to be out of the country and was likely to miss the crucial ceremony which takes place at midnight.
However, GhanaXtra‘s parliamentary sources indicate, Hon. Hammond has attended parliament and is currently seated among his colleague majority members who are poised to present their nomination for Speaker of Parliament and vote massively for their choice.
We reported earlier that some NPP Members of Parliament-elect were likely to miss the occasion but sources claimed the party was making frantic efforts to fly them over to ensure they join voting and push through their nominees for Speaker and Deputy Speaker of The House.
What we know is that Professor Mike Aaron Ocquaye is in the lead to become Speaker but sources say the NDC is likely to counter-nominate former Majority Leader, Alban Babgin for the same position and events currently unfolding suggest there would be a full house as both parties are working to have their nominee elected.
