More than one million Ghanaians will enjoy free electricity and water for the next three months.
According to government, it has absorbed the electricity and water bills for another three months, that is, the months of January, February, and March 2021.
The exemption as announced by government covers active lifeline electricity and water users whose consumption are not more than 5 cubic metres per month.
The move according to government forms part of its plans to support the most vulnerable in the society as a result of the impact of the Coronavirus.
Speaking in update number 21 on measures taken against the spread of Coronavirus, President Akuf-Addo revealed that over one million Ghanaians are expected to benefit from the package.
“Government will, thus, continue to pay the electricity bills our nation’s 1 million active 1 million lifeline users for the next three months, ie, January, February, and March. Additionally, all 1.5 million customers of the Ghana Water Company, whose consumption are is not more than 5 cubic metres a month will not pay any bills for the next three months, ie, January, February, and March. This relief will be reviewed at the end of March”.
