Race To Elect Speaker: NPP Sweating Profusely As Some MPs-Elect Travel Outside

It has emerged that the New Patriotic Party(NPP) is sweating over its numbers as far as the election of the Speaker of the 8th Parliament is concerned.

Credible information available to GhanaXtra.Com is that some of the Members of Parliament-elect on the NPP’s side are outside the jurisdiction of the country.

The source reveals that the issue has become a major headache for the leadership of the party and they are considering all avenues to ensure that the said Members are available ahead of the voting tomorrow to elect the speaker.

According to the source, leadership is angry and cannot fathom why the said MPs-elect will travel outside the country at this critical moment knowing very well that the race to lead parliament is very important to the part looking at the numbers.

Although party leadership is tightlipped over the identity of the said individuals, this portal can confirm that the party is treating the issue lightly and has vowed to initiate punitive measures against any Member of Parliament-elect who fails to be in parliament tomorrow.

Professor Mike Aaron Ocquaye and Honourable Alban S. K. Bagbin will be battling it out for the race to be Speaker of Parliament.

With both parties tied at 137 seats each with an independent candidate, the contest is sure to go down to the wire.

This is a developing story and we will back with more as and when new issues crop up.
