Another Death Hits Police Service As Police Constable Commits Suicide

A police officer identified as Constable Eugene Yelnona with the Ghana Police Service has allegedly committed suicide in Accra.
Constable Eugene Yelnona shot himself whilst on duty at the residence of a Togolese opposition leader, Mr. Gilcrest Olympio who is resident in Ghana.

The incident happened in the early hours of February 1, 2021.

He was attached to the National Protection Unit (NPU).

A source within the police service indicates that the deceased returned from his annual leave on Friday, January 29, 2021.

The source indicates that he requested for an extension of the leave but his request was denied.

The death of Constable Eugene Yelnona is the second to be recorded by the service this year as the District Commander of Jomoro, Superintendent Cyprian Zenge, was found dead with a gunshot wound at his residence at about 07:00 am on 30th January 2021.
